PhD Research
The title of my practice-led research is: Looking at You, Looking at Me: Feminism and Femininity, Spectacle and Spectatorship. Admitting the subjectivity of the visual representations that I include in my investigation, it is my aim to make apparent my relationship to 1920s-50s glamour as manifested in the figures such as the showgirl in theatrical photographs and Hollywood film and demonstrate ways in which my idée fixe can be seen as a demonstration of the agency of the spectator. Thus, my title delineates the frictions my research will encounter and the opportunities that are on offer. I emphasise my subjective position, as this is where I see my contribution to the field through the use of my own desiring gaze.
My art practice will be take the form of video work, photographs and performances that will incorporate original interviews, found material and also, the theoretical ideas that bear upon the artwork.
I shall upload my writing here. In progress is a Literature Review I hope to complete soon. For now, here is my initial research outline.
